Privacy concerns with Google Buzz
Whodathunkit? Days into the launch of its new Facebook killer (heh), Google is scrambling to get ahead of a torrent of outrage over the privacy issues that Google Buzz is creating. At its heart is the fact that Google will automatically create a list of friends for you based on users that you have emailed frequently using your Gmail account. Not only that, but it makes this list of friends public to anyone. The implications for this move go well beyond the concerns of philandering spouses and takes on sinister overtones. If you recall recently, the Gmail service was attacked, supposedly by agents of a government trying to hack accounts to find out who dissidents were corresponding with. If only they knew that Google Buzz would do the heavy lifting for them, they need not have bothered.
